© 2015 Sociedad Española de Cirugía Torácica-Cardiovascular. Conventional coronary artery bypass grafting using cardiopulmonary bypass and cardioplegic arrest has been the gold standard technique for coronary artery bypass grafting. However, several decades ago off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting has become a widespread option to treat ischaemic heart disease. Recently, some trials have questioned the safety and efficacy of this technique. However, evidence strongly suggest that, when performed by experienced surgeons, a no touch aortic technique can significantly reduce the risk of stroke and large propensity matched registries have reported that can reduce postoperative mortality and most aspects of morbidity.
